Questions to ask, Before, During and After Reading a book

Parents and Teachers, we have curated questions for you to ask before, during and after reading with children.

These questions are designed to stimulate discussion, foster critical thinking and deepen comprehension.

Use these prompts to guide your reading sessions.

  • What do you think this book will be about based on the title and cover?
  • Have you read any other books about technology? What did you learn from them?
  • What is the main problem or challenge the characters are facing?
  • How do the characters use technology to solve problems?
  • Can you relate to any of the characters’ experiences with technology?
  • What did you learn about technology from this book?
  • How has this book changed your understanding of how technology impacts our lives?
  • If you could change one thing about the story, what would it be and why?

Reading Tips

Enhance your reading sessions with these tips, tailored to make reading enjoyable and enriching for children of all ages:

  • Set aside a specific time each day for reading. Consistency helps build a habit.
  • Find a quiet, comfortable spot where children can immerse themselves in their books without distractions.

The BIG question.  Can you use tech?  Yes!

  • Explore e-books, audiobooks and interactive apps that complement the reading material and make learning fun.
  • Ask children to predict what will happen next, describe their favourite part, or draw scenes from the book.
  • Relate the book’s themes to real-life experiences or current events. This helps children see the relevance of what they’re reading.
  • Engage with others who are reading the same book.  Join our Facebook group.  This provides a platform for sharing thoughts and broadening perspectives.
