Summer Reading Challenge 2025 – A Summer of Stories and Discovery

Technology Books for Children and Archives of IT

Launch Exciting Summer Reading Challenge

Keep your children’s minds engaged this summer with Technology Books for Children and Archives of IT (AIT) free tech-related reading challenge.

The Summer of Stories and Discovery challenge is aimed at children between the ages of 7-11 and promotes reading for fun. It will also help develop children’s reading skills and encourage them to be more aware of the technology around them.

Explore Six Inspiring Tech Books and Complete Fun Activities

We are asking children to read six tech books over the summer holidays and tell us what they think about each book.

There are also fun activities such as:

  • create your own short story
  • word searches
  • scavenger hunt
  • quiz
  • colouring in
  • make your own bookmark

Print the Summer of Stories and Discovery booklet with certificate

The challenge can be accessed online by downloading the Summer of Stories and Discovery PDF. And once children have completed the challenge, there is a certificate, which they can put on their wall or share with their class when they get back to school.

Beverly Clarke MBE, CEO of Technology Books for Children, said: “Through this summer reading challenge we want to children to be creative and explore the stories of tech through books and be inspired by what they discover as well as have fun with all the other challenges.

“As a charity we aim to make tech topics accessible, engaging, and enjoyable for all children and we hope the summer reading challenge will be fun and interesting.”

There is a wide selection of suggested books on the Technology Books for Children website, which you can seek in your local library, bookshop or online.

Keeps young minds engaged

Katie Anderson, AIT’s Education Lead, said: “The reading challenge keeps young minds engaged. Packed with exciting activities from creative bookmark making to fun hands-on learning, this booklet will keep children curious all summer long without a screen in sight.

“As a charity we are committed to helping children learn more about technology, its history, and the industry behind it, in exciting and practical ways, just like the summer reading challenge.”

Get more involved – Share your childs journey with us

Feel free to send photos of your child reading, engaging in tech activities or showcasing the tech story they have written to info@technologybooksforchildren.org and we will share them online.

The summer reading challenge runs throughout July and August.
